Understanding Autism

A Complex Condition

Autism spectrum disorder (ASD) is a complex neurodevelopmental condition that affects communication, social interaction, behavior, and sensory processing. The Centers for Disease Control & Prevention estimates that 1 in 36 children has been identified with ASD. How it shows up in every individual varies significantly and often becomes apparent before three years of age.

If your child has received a diagnosis or you suspect your child may have autism, please know you are not alone. Throughout your journey, you will experience the highs and lows of acceptance and grief, confidence and uncertainty, understanding and information overload. ACES is your trusted partner, resource connector, and guide.

ABA Therapy

An Evidence-Based Treatment

We believe that applied behavior analysis, or ABA for short, is the key that unlocks the door to progress and opportunity for our clients with autism spectrum disorder. This play-based therapy uses the science of learning and behavior, resulting in flexible, humanistic, empathetic treatment. We focus on naturalistic interventions adapted to the individual needs of each unique person. Positive reinforcement, prompting, and shaping strategies are some of the techniques we use at ACES to help our clients improve their skills and social behaviors.

Diagnosing Autism

How to Get Started

Like the American Academy of Pediatrics, ACES encourages early intervention for children with autism spectrum disorder. But how is a parent supposed to know if a delay or quirk could be a sign of something more significant?

One way to start is with the M-CHAT (Modified Checklist for Autism in Toddlers), a screening tool and questionnaire that may help you decide whether to request a diagnosis.

If you do decide to pursue a diagnosis, call your insurance company and ask for an in-network diagnostician. The rules vary a bit by state, but generally this will be a psychologist or physician.

Most insurance companies will require you to have received a formal autism diagnosis before approving payment for ABA services.

Clinical Quality

At ACES, we create individualized plans and continually measure progress for maximum effectiveness.

As the industry leader, with years of experience, we have access to the best-trained professionals, allowing us to fine-tune each client’s program based on their specific needs.

ACES clients, on average, show significant improvement on the Vineland scale, a widely used autism assessment, after only 6 months of treatment.
